I arrived about 10 PM in Korea which was 7 AM in the states. I had been traveling for 24 hours and it had been a very long day. Then it took about an hour to get to the apartment from the airport. One of the Majors that Robert works with offered to take Robert to the airport to pick me up. I am so thankful for him because otherwise we would have been riding the train! Our apartment is beautiful! I can’t believe that I am going to be living here for the next two years! Luckily, I was able to go straight to sleep.
The next day Robert had to go to work till about 11. While he was gone I had my first encounter with a Korean workman at our apartment complex. He came to fix one of the water faucets in the laundry room and I don’t think that either of us understood what the other was saying, yet the faucet doesn’t leak now so I guess that is good! When Robert got home he took me out to show me around post and around town. My first day it was very overcast yet it was one of the warmer days they have had here lately, so it was nice walking around. There are some fairly big mountains around us yet they are kind of hard to see with the haze. It is about a mile from our apartment to post; on the way there it is all downhill which means on the way back there is a pretty good size hill to go up. All of the walking plus the hills means I will get a good workout wherever I am walking!
That evening Robert wanted to take me to this restaurant he had heard of in a little city about 15 min from us called New City. We took the train there and found the restaurant which ended up being really good! I forgot to take a picture of the food (Sorry Les). We ate muscles that were in a tomato base sauce and a plate with sautéed vegetables in the center and fresh sliced vegetables around the plate. Then of course they bring you pickles, kimchi, roasted oil, wasabi fish eggs, seaweed paper sheets, and sliced veggies soaked in a juice. Of course we drank Korean sake, which was wonderful! It meal was wonderful but I was stuffed afterwards. Then we decided to walk around and see what else was around. We also enjoyed green tea ice cream from Baskin Robins, a chi latte and a frozen coffee from a coffee shop. We also found a Korean bakery so we picked up some bread which Robert ate half of it on the way back to find a taxi to take us home. I opted to wait to eat mine for breakfast since I was still stuffed from dinner! Finally on the way home I was starting to get super tired and it was only about 8:30 pm. When we got back to the apartment I crashed and now I am up at 5 am and I can’t sleep – wide awake! We should have internet today hopefully! As for now I am typing up my posts and then I will post them when we get internet! Being here reminds me so much of Japan and I love it!
