Hong Kong Day 1...

On 1 July, we flew out to Hong Kong.  It was a great flight only three and a half hours.  We arrived at out hotel about 6ish and headed out to find something for dinner.  We ended up checking out a Chinese restaurant.  I had a sweet and sour pork dish, that wasn’t the greatest because the pork had bones!  Ate what I could and then we continued walking around checking out the area.  I was not extremely happy with the area that the hotel was located the hotel was nice, a little small but luckily we didn’t spend much time there.

Our first day we spent getting a feel for their train system, checking out some popular areas, rode the longest escalator, and did a lot of walking.  Hong Kong knows how to build escalators and you better be paying attention when you step on one, they move fast!  We traveled up the longest escalator in the world.  I do not recall the length but it it set up to take commuters down the mountain in the morning to work and at 10am it changes directions and takes commuters up the mountain to their homes.  It was great!  The shopping was great, sadly I did not get to partake in it too much.  I did manage to find a Pandora store and bought a cute little Buddha charm for my Pandora bracelet.  While we were out shopping I stumbled upon an amazing little bakery called Le Goûter Bernardaud that specialized in macaroons.  I do not recall ever having a macaroon but these were amazing!!  They had every color of the rainbow in every flavor imaginable.  Sadly, Robert had the camera with him so I was not able to get a picture of these amazing little treats.  After, shopping we took a ferry across the bay to the mainland in search of a place to enjoy dinner and take in the light show that takes place on the bay every evening.  Well we didn’t find a place for dinner but we found a nice outdoor bar to enjoy some cold beverages and we had a perfect view of the bay and the buildings for the light show.  We sat outside for a couple of hours waiting until the show.  The sky was perfectly clear when we arrived but when the show was about to start the clouds rolled in.  Sadly we missed a lot of the show.  We headed back to the area of our hotel shortly after and worn out from a day of walking and taking in the sights of Hong Kong.
