A Little Vacation...

Sunday, we loaded up and met Katie and Alex to travel down to Deacheon Beach area for Alex's unit live fire. It was about a three-hour drive to the western coast of South Korea. It was a little hazy yet it was a beautiful drive. It was fun to see everything blooming and everything is beginning to turn green. Once we arrived that evening, Robert and I went for a walk along one of the main roads that ran along the ocean. Restaurants lined the road, each with huge fish tanks out in front where they would harvest your meal.

Monday, Katie and I went for a 45 min run and went into town to check out the E-mart. Then in the afternoon Robert and I took Mia out to the beach for her first beach experience. We decided to take her off her leash, thinking she would not go far, yeah right! We took her off the leash and she spotted a birds shadow and took off down the beach, up the stairs, around the group of Koreans, back down the stairs, and then she jumped and landed in the water completely covered! She came running out and then I was able to get her and put her back on the leash. Even on the leash she ran, jumped, and played in the sand. She was not sure about the water but she loved the sand. That evening we went out for dinner with the contractors and some of the soldiers who were all there for the live fire. There were about seventeen of us total. We went to a Korean restaurant where the meat cooks on a grill in front of you and you get all different types of side dishes to go with your meal. Then once the meat is cooked, you wrap it in a piece of lettuce and eat it. Oh, it is so delicious! Then that evening back at the hotel Mia was playing around and I noticed it looked like she had picked something up off the floor and was eating it so I opened her mouth only to realize that she had lost a tooth! We are so happy she is FINALLY starting to lose her baby teeth!

Tuesday, was cold and windy! We visited E-mart again and hung out in our hotel room. We ate lunch at a wonderful little sushi restaurant that we found while walking around. That night the contractors cooked out steaks and we cooked smores on the leftover coals. Afterwards we were all about to head to bed when we glanced outside and noticed it was snowing! Snow in April at the beach, crazy Korea weather!

Wednesday, they were conducting the actual live fire so we went to the range and hung out for a few hours watching the remote controlled planes take off and then they would shoot them down! It was cool to watch! Afterwards, we headed to Osan to visit my friend Nicole and her family and hang out for a couple of days. It was about an hour and a half drive to Osan. Once we arrived, we checked in to our hotel and relaxed for a little bit and then went to my friend Nicole’s house for a WONDERFUL seafood dinner!

Thursday morning I got up, took Mia for a walk, and then met Nicole at noon so she could show me some new stores that she had found. Then that afternoon Robert and I went to check out the gym and to workout. That evening we went to dinner at Chili’s with Nicole and Jeff and then walked around the BX and out in the town for a little bit before calling it a night.

Friday morning we packed up, loaded the car, and then went to make our purchases at the stores I had visited the day before and then we enjoyed lunch at a wonderful little Thai restaurant before we headed home. We had a great time getting out and visiting new places but we booth just decided it is nice to be home and I cannot wait to sleep in my bed tonight. Korean hotel beds are very hard and not very comfortable to sleep on. Mia is happy to be home too! She did great in the hotels and in the car! We are hoping to get out for a bike ride tomorrow if the weather holds out for us. Today was a beautiful day! A long sleeve shirt and jeans were perfect! I hope that tomorrow will be the same! During the past week I took over 300 hundred pictures. I have narrowed them down for the blog!

As for my half marathon training, I ran in a 10K (6 miles) race on Saturday and it went really well. I do not feel that I am at the point that I can safely run the half marathon this coming Saturday. Therefore, I have decided to run a 10-mile race in June and then for sure be ready for a half marathon by August. I would hate to injure myself now and set my training back. I am happy that I can easily run 6 miles and I would hate to lose the progress that I have made thus far.

HOME SWEET HOME!!!

  1. You make me want to come visit Korea! Mia is so adorable! What a little cutie! How old is she? I remember when Booth was teething. He kept biting everything...including my bible. haha
